Lagerfeld Confidential
This documentary takes us into Karl Lagerfeld’s daily life as an artist and a fashion designer. In the film he mentions that couture artists have so much potential to push creativity, however, many are letting businesses run the empire. It’s unfortunate that creativity is usually hindered by money and business politics. I think a brand becomes successful only when creativity and business meets an equilibrium.
The September Issue
The September Issue is a documentary about the legendary Vogue editor, Anna Wintour. It should be an interesting look into the inner workings of the Fashion Bible. The film is now showing in various cities worldwide. I’m hoping to check it out this weekend.
Coco Before Chanel
I’m hoping to catch this film staring Audrey Tautou this weekend.
The first time I ever learned anything about Chanel was when I watched the Lifetime movie about her life. After watching the movie and seeing how Chanel was such a powerful, creative leader, I wonder if she would approve of the way Chanel is being run now.
Smell of greed
Francesco Vezzoli’s project Greed is faux ad campaign for an imagined perfume. The short film featuring Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams attempts to isolate and imitate the hype created by the promotion of a new luxury product in the mass market. Watch it here.
