Here’s an example of superfluous luxury at its best…Robert Cavalli’s new pet collection where doggy t-shirts start at $110.
LV 2010 gym couture
Louis Vuitton just released their Spring/Summer 2010 gym set. Who wouldn’t want to sweat all over their Louis Vuitton wrist band…
Hermès
Hermès is a luxury brand that has done everything in its power to exude exclusivity. Even though they’re the highest of high end brands, there is something about the brand that doesn’t feel elitist.
“I don’t like elitism in fashion – it’s stupid and boring” – Simon Doonan

Retail design
Lately, I’ve been looking into retail store designs and came across some amazing work by interior design firm Wonderwall. Many high end storefronts are beginning to feel like cookie cutter designs. Consumers are becoming more knowledgeable with higher expectations. The attention to details and brand storytelling are what will make a store stand out amongst another.
Skin by Chanel
This project by Ryan McSorely explores the possible future of skincare and branding. His project includes cleanser, toner, lotion, and a tool that allows you to leave a logo impression on your skin!

Louis Vuitton Sells Quality
I was flipping through Vanity Fair and this new ad campaign stopped me in my tracks. The ad reads:
THE YOUNG WOMAN AND THE TINY FOLDS
In everything from Louis Vuitton, there are elements that cannot be fully explained. What secret little gestures do our craftsmen discreetly pass on? How do we blend innate skill and inherent prowess? Continue reading Louis Vuitton Sells Quality
Valentino Documentary
Valentino The Last Emperor is a documentary that takes us into the world of couture and high fashion of the Valentino empire. What I found interesting in the film was the tug of war between creativity and management. Many times in the film Valentino hints to how fashion has become more of a well oiled money making machine. He comments about how today’s industry is run by Continue reading Valentino Documentary
McFancy
My thesis advisor, Christopher Cortez, sent me this link to the McFancy project. What is it about a logo that can make a Big Mac feel so fancy mcPantsy?
Fake
It wasn’t until I started doing research on the counterfeit industry did I really understand the consequences of purchasing a fake. I was surprised to find out that many counterfeits are produced by violent crime syndicates that deal in narcotics, weapons, child prostitution, human trafficking, and terrorism. Above is an image from Bea Correa’s Fakewear project.
Religiously LV
I’m starting to think many consumers follow brands a little too religiously.
The Outnet
Another high-end e-tailer.
Lagerfeld Confidential
This documentary takes us into Karl Lagerfeld’s daily life as an artist and a fashion designer. In the film he mentions that couture artists have so much potential to push creativity, however, many are letting businesses run the empire. It’s unfortunate that creativity is usually hindered by money and business politics. I think a brand becomes successful only when creativity and business meets an equilibrium.
Los Angeles here I come
I’ll be visiting LA to do some research. Places I’m hoping to check out:
– Echo Park Time Travel Mart
– Paul Smith
– Rodeo Drive
– Melrose Ave.
RL’s Photoshop Nightmare
Extremely thin models are nothing new to the fashion industry. However, this Photoshop mishap at Ralph Lauren is just unexceptable.
